Welcome to the Alton Academy of Dance! Our 2023-2024 Season began on September 5th and will continue through the first week of June. We will have a Winter Recital on December 15th and a Spring recital in June. New students are welcome to join our season at any time! Please see the information below on our studio policies. We hope to see you all dancing with us this season!

Communication

• Class communication is done through GroupMe, Parent Portal, Google Classroom and E-mail ([email protected] OR [email protected])
• Announcements will be posted on GroupMe, Facebook and here on our website!

Inclement Weather/Closure

• Please check Facebook, GroupMe and/or our website for class cancellations
• Make up classes will be added if the same class is canceled more than 3 times
• If the studio were to temporarily close, classes will resume on Zoom. Ms. Melissa will provide a Zoom link via E-mail and GroupMe
• Tuition will continue to be charged each month even if you do not attend Zoom classes
• No refunds for prepaid tuition, costume fees, recital fees, workshops, or camp fees (these will remain as a credit on your account).

Class Policy

• Only water is allowed in the studio. Snacks may be kept in the dancer’s den. 
• No electronic devices (cell phones/tablets/ipads), food, drinks, or gum allowed in class. 
• No street shoes on the dance floor. Leave all shoes at the front door when you enter. 
• Please plan to arrive 5-10 minutes early to allow your dancer time to unpack and warm up before their class begins.

Dress Code

• Having your child in appropriate dress and hair helps your dancer’s teacher to see body placement, brings the class together as a group, and is less distracting for the dancers.
• No jewelry or big tutus allowed. 
• Hair should be pulled back in a ponytail or ballet bun (for ballet classes). 
• No undergarments with tights (your tights are your underwear)
• Specific dress codes for each class: 
  • Ballet: Black leotard, pink tights, pink split sole ballet shoes
  • Tap: Form fitting dancewear (preferably black) and black jazz/tap shoes
  • Jazz: Form fitting dancewear (preferably black) and tan jazz shoes
  • Lyrical: Form fitting dancewear (preferably black) and lyrical or jazz shoes
  • Acro: Form fitting dance wear or AADS Tank tops/black shorts
  • Hip Hop: Form fitting dancewear (preferably black) and hip hop shoes/tennis shoes (that are not worn outside)

All Other Classes: Form fitting dancewear (preferably black)

We are a family owned business that offers dance instruction to beginners through advanced dancers in a friendly, positive, and motivating environment.  We strive to share the joy of dance, as well as building confidence and self esteem while training in the areas of ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical, hip hop and competitive dance.   We look forward to meeting each and every new student, and you are always welcome to come in and observe our classes!
