• Class communication is done through GroupMe, Parent Portal, Google Classroom and E-mail ([email protected] OR [email protected])

• Announcements will be posted on GroupMe, Facebook and our Website (www.altonacademyofdance.com) 

• Please make sure that your information is up to date in the Parent Portal so that you are receiving all communications from the studio! You can access our Portal via the following web address: https://dancestudio-pro.com/online/altonacademyofdance

• Only water is allowed in the studio. Snacks may be kept in the dancer’s den. 

• No electronic devices (cell phones/tablets/ipads), food, drinks, or gum allowed in class. 

• No street shoes on the dance floor. Leave all shoes at the front door when you enter. 

• Please plan to arrive 5-10 minutes early to allow your dancer time to unpack and warm up before their class begins. 

Bullying Policy

Any behavior by dancers that creates a negative environment or causes dancers to feel unsafe will      not be tolerated. This includes behaviors that can be classified as “bullying.” 

• Types of Bullying (stopbullying.gov): 

  • Verbal bullying is saying or writing mean things. Verbal bullying includes: 

    • Teasing/taunting

    • Name-calling

    • Inappropriate comments

    • Threatening to cause harm 

  • Social bullying, sometimes referred to as relational bullying, involves hurting someone’s reputation or relationships. Social bullying includes: 

    • Leaving someone out on purpose

    • Telling other children not to be friends with someone

    • Spreading rumors about someone 

    • Embarrassing someone in public

  • Physical bullying involves hurting a person’s body or possessions. Physical bullying includes: 

    • Hitting/kicking/pinching/spitting

    • Tripping/pushing

    • Taking or breaking someone’s things

    • Making mean or rude hand gestures

• If a student is observed to be engaging in behavior that the instructor/teacher believes to be bullying, the following actions will be taken: 

  • 1st Offense – The dancer will be taken aside and be warned about the behavior

  • 2nd Offense – The dancer will be removed from class and the dancer’s parent/guardian will be contacted to notify them of the dancer’s behavior. A meeting with the instructors and director may also be scheduled. 

  • 3rd Offense – The dancer will be removed from the studio and will not be permitted to return for the remainder of the dance year or participate in any performance. No refunds will be given at the point a dancer is removed from the studio. 

• No refunds will be given for missed classes or for dropping a class mid-season. 

• Make-up classes may be available, but are not guaranteed. 

• Please inform Mrs. Melissa or Mrs. Jessica if you will be missing or dropping a class. 

• When dancers arrive, they should leave their shoes at the front door inside of the studio and take their dance bag back to the dancer’s den. Parents/Guardians: Please do NOT leave until you have seen your dancer enter the studio. 

• At the end of class, dancers will need to collect all of their belongings from the dancer’s den and will be allowed to leave the studio once their ride has arrived. 

• Dancers will not be allowed to sit outside without supervision before or after class. 

• Dancers should be picked up and dropped off within 15 minutes of their class start and end time

  • We do understand that emergencies arise, so should your dancer need to arrive or stay beyond the 15 minute time frame, you must have had communication with Mrs. Melissa and/or Mrs. Jessica

  • Should your dancer need to arrive earlier than or stay later than the 15 minute time frame more than twice in a one month period, your account will be charged $30/per occurrence. 

• Please check Facebook and GroupMe for class cancellations

• Make up classes will be added if the same class is canceled more than 3 times

• If the studio were to temporarily close, classes will resume on Zoom. Ms. Melissa will provide a Zoom link via E-mail and GroupMe

• Tuition will continue to be charged each month even if you do not attend Zoom classes

• No refunds for prepaid tuition, costume fees, recital fees, workshops, or camp fees (these will remain as a credit on your account). 

• Photos and videos might be posted with your child in them for marketing purposes on our Facebook page, Instagram, print materials or website. If you do not wish to have your dancer’s image used on social media or print, please make sure to update your waiver in your parent portal. 

• Never post videos of choreography until the competition season is over. 

• When posting class work, never post more than 10-15 seconds of choreography. 

• Use of SnapChat, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, or other online social media: Dancers and Parents should never post negative comments about AADS or anyone.
